Nettle Skin Salve

Now, nettles aren't typically what you think of regarding plants you'd want to rub on your skin.

But, this unassuming superfood contain natural antihistamines, and combined with other anti-inflammatory plants, are the perfect things to clear up dry, damaged, and itchy skin.

Shelf stable for 2+ years, this recipe has proved invaluable to Lula, who suffered immensely from eczema beforehand.

Ingredients

  • 222g Carrier Oil (Olive, Almond, Avocado)

  • A mixture of dried or fresh Nettles, Calendula, Chamomile, Lavender, or Plantain

  • 133g Coconut Oil

  • 133g Shea Butter

  • 2 tbsp Beeswax

(Coconut Oil, Shea Butter or Beeswax are interchangeable, but the more the merrier :) 

*Optional*

  • A few drops of beneficial oils like Hemp Seed, Lavender, Chamomile, Neem, Vitamin E, Rose Geranium, Eucalyptus, etc.

  • A splash of Vodka to extend shelf life

Recipe

  1. In a glass jar, submerge your fresh or dried plant material in a carrier oil and seal. To prevent mold, add a splash of vodka. Store in a warm dark place for 3 - 4 weeks, allowing the plants to steep, shaking occasionally.

  2. In a double boiler, melt coconut oil, shea butter, or beeswax until it becomes a liquid.

  3. Remove the pot from the heat, strain your infused oil, and stir in, as well as any other optional essential oils.

  4. Transfer the mixture to a permanent glass or plastic container, and store in the fridge to solidify until ready for use.
